What You’ll Do

EMPACT is proud to be part of a premier crisis system modeled throughout the country. This is a great opportunity for a Crisis Specialist to join our dynamic department in Tempe or Glendale, AZ and provide crisis services. Responsibilities include responding to crisis calls, completing crisis interventions for ongoing clients, case management and coordination of care, interfacing with first responders, and other related duties.

Work Schedule:

Four 10‑hour workdays per week (DAY, WEEKEND and EVENING shifts available).

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide direct in‑home, in‑office, in‑school and community‑based crisis services including crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and transportation.
  • Maintain quality service delivery, clinical care, and accurate documentation; keep client records per agency policies.
  • Coordinate communication with other agency departments for continuity of care; develop relationships with state, community behavioral health, and contracting organizations.
  • Comply with agency standard of care, assist with Quality Management and Utilization Review as needed.
  • Work safely, support team members, and maintain professionalism in all team interactions.
  • Oversee daily functioning of department vehicles, report incidents, and perform basic safety checks (oil, tire‑air pressure, etc.).
  • React professionally to crisis situations in potentially volatile environments.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive a differential in pay based on position and high‑risk responsibilities.
  • Be flexible with shift location and change location at shift start to meet departmental needs.
  • Use downtime for special projects benefiting crisis and other departments.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and supervision; reschedule if missed due to crisis calls.
  • Work beyond shift as needed with overtime approval from Department Manager or Director of Programs.
  • May use personal vehicle if agency van unavailable; client transport not required.
  • Provide guidance to new staff or interns on interventions, documentation, and process flow.
What You’ll Provide
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a directly related field plus 1 year of Behavioral Health experience, or qualifications to meet BHT level requirements.
  • Experience in crisis services, outpatient services, or community outreach preferred; sub‑acute or urgent psychiatric experience a plus.
  • Flexibility to extend work shift for crisis work and paperwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, collaborate, and work in a team environment.
  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred. Bilingual differential pay per hour.
  • Valid AZ driver’s license with no major infractions in the last 39 months.
  • Fingerprint clearance card required or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Minimum age 21 at time of employment.
Additional Requirements and Responsibilities
  • Maintain calm in crisis, work independently and cooperatively, recognize limitations, and show empathy to all persons regardless of background.
  • Maintain professional conduct per agency policies.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external team members.
  • If driving on agency time, a valid Arizona license, appropriate liability insurance, and approval for liability coverage with EMPACT‑SPC’s carrier are required. A 3‑year driving record with no major infractions required.
  • Staff providing direct client services must be at least 21; support personnel at least 18; all have minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
