Job Summary

Teach courses in emergency medical services (EMS), such as introductory EMT ¶medic programs, in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings. Program examples include the EMT Certificate of Competency which prepares students to handle emergency care, stabilization, patient assessment, and prepare for the national registry. Guide, mentor, and assess students in both theoretical knowledge and practical skill competency—including lab simulation, real‑world EMT scenarios, skill testing, and clinical/field placements.

Participate in departmental and college service obligations: faculty meetings, committee work, student advising, continuing education, outreach, etc.

Essential Functions
  • Instructing and supervising a diverse population of students using active‑learning, student‑centered teaching strategies.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing curriculum and instruction for EMT/paramedicine courses including classroom, laboratory and clinical/field settings.
  • Evaluating student performance through assignments, exams, simulations, practicum/skills labs, and clinical field work; providing feedback and remediation as needed.
  • Maintaining and demonstrating currency in the field of emergency medical services (EMS) and teaching practice, including compliance with state and national EMS education standards.
  • Collaborating with program director, advisory boards, clinical partners (ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals) to secure internships/clinical placements and ensure the program meets accreditation or certification requirements.
