Evening (2 pm – 12:30 am), 40 hours per week, rotating every other weekend and holiday.

Position Summary
This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In‑Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS) and may be responsible for coverage at multiple locations. The role involves collection and receipt of biological specimens, entry into the company’s computer system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and distribution to the appropriate analytical area. Responsibilities also include pre‑ and post‑analytic tasks and occasional specified analytical testing as assigned, while following the guidelines of the Code of Conduct and all applicable policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Core Functions

  • Collection of specimens, general laboratory specimen processing, or referral laboratory processing while ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and integrity for all age groups. In IOP locations, manage client relationships within compliance regulations.
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, clinical information, and other requisition details for billing. Verify specimen appropriateness, aliquot, label, and deliver specimens to the technical area or prepare them for transport, and help monitor workflow and train new employees.
  • Focus on quality by ensuring all work is accurate and complete, completing documents legibly, following established methods, maintaining familiarity with procedures, and recording communications. Initiate computer‑generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance, meet departmental standards for productivity and quality, and participate in committees or Six Sigma teams to improve processes.
  • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities by using supplies and materials efficiently, avoiding waste, and supporting initiatives to reduce costs and improve service.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, work all areas, departments, and shifts as assigned, resolve basic service issues, and attend meetings and stay current with internal/external communications (e‑mail, newsletters, etc.).
  • Acknowledge the importance of patient rights and HIPAA privacy requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (state regulatory requirements).
  • Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.
  • May require DHS fingerprinting certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license in the state of employment and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Float positions require travel, flexible hours, and ability to work multiple locations, including mobile phlebotomy facilities and in‑office sites with minimal notice. Must cover on‑call duties, weekends, evenings, and early mornings as needed.
  • Progression through career ladder II‑IV subject to completion of ladder requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
