Direct Support Professional

Location: Manistee Home, near W. Northern Ave & N. 51st Ave, Glendale, 85301
Pay Rate: $14.70/hr
Position Type: Non-exempt, Full-Time or Part-Time, Hourly

Summary

This role provides direct support within a single program or unit, typically supporting 4–6 individuals in residential settings or up to 10 individuals in periodic programs. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) delivers support according to individual service/program plans and helps individuals live as independently as possible.

Key Responsibilities

Services and Supports

  • Provide direct support according to individual service plans, including personal care, socialization, skill/behavioral development, recreational activities, transportation, community integration, shopping, and daily living tasks
  • Maintain accurate documentation, review records regularly, and ensure confidentiality
  • Assist with management of individuals’ funds and make purchases aligned with their preferences
  • Maintain professional relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and case managers
  • Report incidents, medical issues, and concerns per policy and regulatory requirements
  • Respect and protect individuals’ rights

Health Care Support

  • Accompany individuals to medical appointments as needed; communicate with medical providers
  • Administer or support medication administration and maintain proper documentation and security
  • Monitor health and follow directives; respond to emergencies appropriately
  • Use medical equipment correctly and report malfunctions
  • Assist with meal preparation and ensure dietary needs are met

Employment Responsibilities

  • Attend orientation, ongoing training, and staff meetings
  • Work scheduled hours reliably; fill in for other shifts if required
  • Demonstrate teamwork, respect, and effective communication
  • Maintain a safe work environment and participate in safety-related activities

Maintenance

  • Transport individuals safely, ensuring proper use of safety equipment
  • Perform daily and seasonal housekeeping; maintain safe and clean environments

    Conduct minor repairs, yard maintenance, and safety checks
  • Report hazards or equipment issues promptly

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties as required
Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Six months of experience in human services preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Basic computer skills

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance if providing transportation
  • Complete all state-required trainings and certifications
  • Comply with background checks, Central Registry, and Child Abuse Registry as required
  • Pass pre-employment and random drug testing

Physical Requirements

  • Heavy work: may exert up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly

Work Environment

  • Work at the program location and accompany individuals into the community as needed
