Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including the items listed above and engine electronics.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
- Collaborate with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve issues, or meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks with effective prioritization and time management.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks as required.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and operate within standard repair times where applicable.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support team to obtain approvals on estimates and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, and DOT).
- Maintain safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections of the service truck.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience; or an alternative combination such as higher-level degree/certification in a related discipline or 5 years of related experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- HM 183 Cargo Tank Training/Experience preferred but not required.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- This position requires compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations and successful completion of a DOT pre-employment background screening and DOT physical.
- Current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; if four months or less, a DOT physical is required.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority.
- Safe driving record; valid driver’s license and ability to maintain Driver Qualification File.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification required within 18 months
- Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), T8/609 as applicable
