Overview
The Social Worker (LCSW) is responsible for assessment, treatment planning and provision of social work services to patients, families, groups and the interdisciplinary team. The LCSW social worker also provides supervision for graduate master level students and supervision of MSW employees for all clinical activities, provides psychosocial services in individual, family, and group formats, and is a Per Diem LCSW covering weekend and possibly holiday shifts for Keck and Norris Hospital's.
EssentialDuties
- Psychosocial Assessment – to be completed in a timely manner using theoretical knowledge of human behavior, psychosocial factors affecting treatment outcomes and understanding of potential ethical and risk issues.
- Clinical intervention – supportive counseling, linkage and referral to community agencies, facilitation of family conferences, assistance in difficult decision making (hospice, DNR, placement), aid in communicating concerns to physicians, collaboration with case managers on discharge planning, group facilitation and program development.
- Triage/Management of clinical caseload – identify high‑risk situations, manage caseload, balance referrals, high‑risk admissions and ongoing patient care, request assistance from colleagues or manager when needed.
- Legal and ethical standards – incorporate into all assessments and interventions (abuse/neglect, Tarasoff duty to warn, conservatorship, patient rights) and adhere to Tenet Policies, Procedures and Practices in Social Services.
- Documentation – complete per policy (Interdisciplinary Plan of Care, Education Form, Advance Health Care Directive follow‑up form, Social Services Progress Notes).
- In‑service training – provide education to other hospital staff on psychosocial issues of patient care (e.g., Lunch and Learns).
- Social Service reports – timely submission of PAS numbers, case assignment by SW, absence approval requests, etc.
- Quality Improvement – participate in development, monitoring and analysis of process and outcome indicators to improve patient care.
- Maintain competencies for hospital, age‑specific and job‑specific standards of care.
- Other duties as assigned, including Social Work Month activities, cancer‑specific support groups and educational programs for patients, families, staff and volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited graduate school.
- 2 years experience in a medical setting.
- 1 year experience within a specialty setting.
- Knowledge of social theories and practices.
- Social perceptiveness and empathy.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, planning and evaluation skills.
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, staff and patients.
- Ability to function independently and as a member of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required Licenses/Certifications- Licensed Clinical Social Worker – LCSW (CA DCA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
The hourly rate range for this position is $46.00 - $76.07.
