We are looking to hire a Governance Engineer to own the hands-on administration and day-to-day operation of
the platform's data governance and security tooling.
This is a hands-on, technical role. The Governance Engineer administers and operates our governance and
security tool stack:
Snowflake Horizon and native Snowflake security features, Immuta for access
governance, Anomalo for data quality, Alation for our data catalog, identity and access integration, our
internal IBG tool for AI-generated data descriptions, and an in-development tool that tags data at ingest.
They are the first line of support across these tools the first point of contact for alerts, configuration
issues, and access questions.
The role works within an agile internal data services team of full-stack, reporting, and data engineers, SREs,
product owners, the Data Governance Lead, and executive stakeholders. The Data Governance Lead sets
program strategy, policy, and stakeholder alignment; this role turns that policy into working configuration
and keeps it running. You will not be alone: complex or platform-level problems are worked with our
platform engineering and SRE teams, and prior experience with our specific tools is not expected the
ability and appetite to learn them is.
Responsibilities- Administer and configure Snowflake Horizon and native Snowflake security and governance features RBAC, masking, object tagging as a light administrator of the platform.
- Implement and maintain access governance policies in Immuta, translating governance and security requirements into working technical controls.
- Configure, tune, and monitor data quality checks and alerts across governed datasets.
- Maintain and enrich the data catalog so datasets are discoverable, described, and classified.
- Adopt and help refine our internal tool for generating and validating data descriptions at scale.
- Partner with platform engineering to test, integrate, and roll out our in-development ingest-time data tagging tool.
- Act as the first line of support for the governance and security tool stack alerts, access issues, Alation and catalog questions, configuration issues at the tool level and partnering with platform engineering and SRE on anything complex or platform-specific.
- Support identity and access integration, including onboarding and access certification workflows.
- Participate in vendor conversations, technical evaluations, and proofs of concept helping define what needs to be validated, running hands-on testing, and reporting what worked and what did not.
- Translate governance and security policy defined by the Data Governance Lead and the Security team into technical configuration across the tool stack.
- Automate and codify governance configuration where possible, so controls are repeatable, version-controlled, and auditable rather than manually applied.
- Document configurations, runbooks, integration patterns, and operational procedures for the governance and security stack.
- Help define how governance tooling is operated once it is stood up monitoring, support, routine maintenance, and upgrades.
- Evaluate emerging governance and security tooling as the stack evolves, and make technical recommendations.
