Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are looking to hire a Data Governance Engineer to own the hands-on administration and day-to-day operation of our platform's data governance and security tooling. This is a hands-on, technical role.

This position administers and operates our governance and security tool stack:
Snowflake Horizon and native Snowflake security features, Immuta for access governance, Anomalo for data quality, Alation for our data catalog, identity and access integration, our internal IBG tool for AI-generated data descriptions, and an in-development tool that tags data y are the first line of support across these tools - the first point of contact for alerts, configuration issues, and access questions.

The role works within an agile internal data services team of full-stack, reporting, and data engineers, SREs, product owners, the Data Governance Lead, and executive stakeholders. The Data Governance Lead sets program strategy, policy, and stakeholder alignment; this role turns that policy into working configuration and keeps it running. You will not be alone: complex or platform-level problems are worked with our platform engineering and SRE teams, and prior experience with our specific tools is not expected - the ability and appetite to learn them is.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and configure Snowflake Horizon and native Snowflake security and governance features - RBAC, masking, object tagging - as a light administrator of the platform.
  • Implement and maintain access governance policies in Immuta, translating governance and security requirements into working technical controls.
  • Configure, tune, and monitor data quality checks and alerts across governed datasets.
  • Maintain and enrich the data catalog so datasets are discoverable, described, and classified.
  • Adopt and help refine our internal tool for generating and validating data descriptions at scale.
  • Partner with platform engineering to test, integrate, and roll out our in-development ingest-time data tagging tool.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of data engineering, software engineering, or platform engineering experience.
  • Strong working proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including RBAC, masking, and object tagging.
  • Experience owning day-to-day operations and troubleshooting for production systems.
  • Comfortable learning unfamiliar tools quickly from documentation and vendor support, and getting them into working order.
  • Working knowledge of core data governance concepts: data catalogs, critical data elements, data quality rules and metrics, and data classification.
  • A quick learner who leans into new technical domains. Prior experience with our specific tool stack is not required.
  • Experience partnering with a program or product lead to turn policy and requirements into technical implementation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data access governance tooling such as Immuta or Secu Pi.
  • Experience with data quality tooling such as Anomalo, Monte Carlo, or similar.
  • Experience with data catalog or metadata tooling such as Alation, Collibra, or Purview.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD >
Terraform or equivalent - applied to platform or security configuration.
  • Experience with identity and access management tooling such as SailPoint or Okta.
  • Experience participating in vendor evaluations or proofs of concept.
  • Experience supporting domain data stewards to identify and define critical data elements and data quality rules, and participating in root cause analysis and remediation.
  • Familiarity with privacy, compliance, or audit frameworks and their technical implementation.
  • Experience with AI-assisted data documentation or description tooling.
  • Exposure to agent or LLM access patterns over governed data.
