Position: Planned Giving & Trust Services: Director, Full-Time, Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

Support the Southern California Conference (“SCC”) in accomplishing its mission, “to exalt Christ by cultivating healthy churches and schools and embody its values of integrity with transparency, engagement, stewardship, unity in diversity, and relationships and team.

Provide strategic, operational, spiritual, and fiduciary leadership to the department. Be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and supervising a comprehensive program of charitable gift and estate planning services in accordance with the North American Division (NAD) Working Policy, General Conference (GC) policy, and applicable federal and state legal requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Regular attendance.
  • Develop and evaluate strategic plans to educate the constituents of the Conference to the advantages of charitable gifting through estate planning.
  • Create marketing plan to promote the charitable interests of the Conference while at the same time seeking the interests of the potential donors.
  • Develop estate plans to implement trustor, testators, donors’ distributive wishes while reducing tax liabilities to their estates to maximize the benefits for the family and charity.
  • Establish strong working relationships with pastors by attending region pastors meetings and conference wide retreats on a regular basis.
  • Actively engage in regular visits to churches and members, preach sermons, hold seminars, and answer questions regarding estate planning and stewardship. This may be done on Sabbath mornings and/or afternoons, at AY programs, prayer meetings, etc. Presenting at a minimum of two churches per month.
  • Respond and follow up on all interests, leads, and potential donors
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing donors through regular promotional and educational opportunities including at donor recognition events.
  • Presenting reports to Asset Management Committee and other committees as assigned.
  • Organize and prepare materials for seminars and presentations. Write articles for newsletters and create promotional and informational brochures.
  • Provide trustee and conservator services by overseeing personal care and needs of clients and/or visiting large donors regularly.
  • Monitor department budget in consultation with Treasurer.
  • Assist in the development of plan giving resources on social media platforms.
  • Work with other entities as needed to coordinate plan trust services.
  • Comply with policies and procedures of the Conference, including but not limited to those in the employee handbook and the North American Division Working Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job, the individual

    • Must perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily, and
    • Be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing, and
    • This position requires occasional travel for local meetings, events, and training sessions, including some training outside of California.

    Education and Experience
    • Undergraduate degree (Business Administration, Law, Finance, Theology, or related field) from a recognized college or university is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
    • At least 5 years of experience in trust services and planned giving or related field or a combination of academic qualifications and relevant work experience.
    • At least three years in supervising or leadership role.
    • Experience with in the Seventh-day Adventist church structure is highly preferred.
