Position Overview

The Glendora Police Department is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our first responder team as a 911 Police Dispatcher. Candidates must be prepared to remain calm under pressure, provide outstanding customer service, and maintain accurate data entry and communication with the field.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Receive and screen calls for police or other emergency services, determining priority and type of response required.
  • Monitor radio frequencies, cameras, and other incident monitoring systems to stay aware of additional incidents.
  • Dispatch police and animal control units, as well as requested agencies such as hospitals, towing services, and utilities, issuing calls and mutual assistance requests as needed.
  • Maintain real‑time track of unit locations and status; conduct warrant, registration, and criminal history checks; provide instructions to personnel.
  • Maintain an accurate log of all service requests and actions taken; prepare reports; enter and retrieve information from computer and teletype networks.
  • Provide general information to the public, refer callers to appropriate agencies, calm distressed callers, and assist with translation needs when required.
Knowledge,

Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (any combination of education and experience that provides required knowledge and abilities).
  • Considerable knowledge of office procedures, record‑keeping systems, dispatching procedures, and relevant laws (Penal Code, Vehicle Code, local municipal code).
  • Knowledge of the 911 system, TDD Deaf Translation System, and Text‑to‑911.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to type 45 words per minute; a typing certificate dated within the last 12 months is required (online proctor‑verified certificates are not accepted).
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and nights on a routine scheduled basis.
Special Requirements
  • Completion of a P.O.S.T. approved entry‑level Police Dispatcher basic training course prior to completion of the probationary period.
  • Submit a valid typing certificate or PRO‑verified proctor certificate with the application.
  • Applicants may not apply for this position more than once in a six‑month period.
Selection Process

All applications will be reviewed and evaluated. Candidates deemed best qualified will be invited to a qualifying written exam and interview (weighted 100%). The written exam may be waived for candidates who currently possess a POST‑certified dispatcher basic certificate (copy required), a POST dispatcher T‑score of 48 or higher within the last 12 months, or a qualifying National Testing Network score.
