Level 1-3 Machinist - is responsible for setting up and producing machined parts by operating a CNC machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment
Role and Responsibilities
Setting up and Running CNC machinery for production runs.
Ensure the machine has the proper computer program and necessary tools installed.
Position the materials being used on the machine and turn on the power.
CNC machine operators monitor machinery for any problems during the production run. If there is an issue, operators may adjust the program to correct the problem or consult with a programmer who fixes the program. After items have been produced, machine operators ensure that they meet specifications and verify their quality per procedure.
Must interpret blueprints, manuals, and other work instructions. Understands what non-conforming product is and how to take appropriate actions.
CNC operator machinists additionally clean and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on machines, tooling and parts. They must work safely to prevent on-the-job injuries, which includes wearing personal protective equipment such as safety glasses. They also inspect cutting tools for sharpness and usability.
Detect malfunctions using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial calipers, depth gages, indicators and scales, according to manufactures spec. Communicate with Shop Foreman and Production scheduler for assignments, and to resolve machining or quality issues as well.

Requires basic shop mathematical skills.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to follow verbal and written instructions well.

Must be able to perform repetitive motions and must have strong finger dexterity.
