The Wheeled Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of wheeled excavators, including the use of tilt rotator attachments, to carry out excavation, lifting and material handling activities on civil engineering projects. Working closely with site teams, the role ensures works are completed safely, accurately and in line with project requirements and Company Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) standards.

The Wheeled Excavator Operator plays a key role in supporting the delivery of civil engineering projects by carrying out versatile and precise plant operations across varied site conditions. The role requires adaptability, strong technical skill and close coordination with site teams to maintain productivity, meet programme targets and uphold high standards of safety and quality.

key responsibilities

• Safe and efficient operation of wheeled excavators, including use of tilt rotator attachments for precision excavation and grading.

• Carry out daily pre-start checks and routine inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance issues promptly.

• Undertake excavation, trenching, lifting, loading and material handling tasks in line with site requirements.

• Use tilt rotator systems to improve accuracy, efficiency and versatility of excavation works.

• Work closely with site supervisors, engineers and ground teams to deliver works in line with the construction programme.

• Follow all site-specific method statements, risk assessments and traffic management plans.

• Maintain plant cleanliness, undertake basic housekeeping and ensure equipment is kept in safe working condition.

• Support wider site operations as required to assist project delivery.

• To be aware of all Company Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) policies, procedures and management systems and to ensure their application as they relate to areas of responsibility.

• Attend training and development activities in person or via eLearning as required.

• Undertake any such duties as may reasonably be ascribed to the role from time to time.

Skill, knowledge, and experiences

• Valid CPCS or NPORS (with CPCS hologram) card for relevant plant category.

• Full UK Driving Licence.

• Proven experience operating Wheeled Excavators within a civil engineering environment.

Strong work ethic, reliability and ability to work as part of a team.

• Flexibility to work across multiple sites throughout Scotland.
