Administer Infusions and Injections
- Administer specialty medications via IV, subcutaneous injections, or other methods as prescribed.
- Monitor patients during the infusion process for any adverse reactions or complications.
Patient Assessment
- Review the patient’s medical history, allergies, and current medications before treatment.
- Evaluate vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate) before, during, and after infusions.
- Identify and document any potential risks or side effects.
Education and Counseling
- Educate patients and caregivers about medication, potential side effects, and expectations.
- Provide instructions for managing side effects or emergencies at home after the infusion.
Patient Monitoring and Follow‑up
- Continuously monitor for immediate reactions during and after infusions.
- Schedule follow‑up calls or visits to monitor patient progress and any delayed side effects.
Documentation and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of infusions, patient responses, adverse events, and medication administration.
- Document patient education and follow‑up instructions to ensure compliance with regulations and pharmacy policies.
Collaboration with Healthcare Providers
- Work closely with nursing teams, pharmacists, and pharmacy staff to ensure optimal patient care.
- Communicate any issues or concerns about treatment effectiveness or patient reactions to the clinical nurse supervisor.
Medication Management
- Prepare and handle medications, adhering to safety standards.
- Verify the correct medication and dosage for each patient.
Quality Control and Safety
- Follow sterile techniques and safety protocols during the infusion process.
- Adhere to infection control guidelines to prevent contamination during preparation or administration.
Inventory Management
- Monitor medication stock levels to ensure adequate of specialty medications.
- Coordinate with the pharmacy team to manage inventory and ensure availability of needed medications.
Support for Specialty Medication Services
- Offer support for insurance verification or authorization processes related to specialty medications.
- RN license with at least 2 years of experience (required).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (required).
- College degree or equivalent experience (required).
- Experience in infusion, ER, ICU, or hospital setting preferred.
- Experience with PICC lines, ports, and PICC maintenance (required).
- Background check, including drug screen, required prior to employment.
