Job Description:

Primary Responsibility

The adjunct faculty members at Colorado Mountain College assist students in their learning process by utilizing staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies that complement teaching. They are committed to facilitating learning in our communities. While teaching is the primary role, faculty are also engaged in scholarly activities and service to support student success.

The college seeks innovative learning facilitators who are passionate about teaching and expanding academic opportunities. Colorado Mountain College offers associate and bachelor's degrees, emphasizing positive classroom experiences and outcomes. The college focuses on teaching excellence and student support rather than research. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for dynamic classroom experiences and academic excellence.

Prerequisites (Qualifications Standards)

Qualified candidates must be credentialed or eligible to be credentialed in the relevant program. Ideal qualifications include:

  • A minimum of a master's degree in the specific field or a master's with at least 18 graduate credits in a related area (e.g., business, finance, management, marketing).
  • At least one year of full-time teaching or equivalent experience as an adjunct instructor.
  • Higher education teaching experience is preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Special skills include knowledge of pedagogy, teaching experience (equivalent to two years), strong computer and technology skills, organizational abilities, communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Bilingual abilities in English/Spanish are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Essential Duties

Faculty responsibilities include:

  • Teaching assigned courses, evaluating student learning, and meeting course outcomes.
  • Developing rapport with students, advising, and participating in orientation and registration.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities and service, including committee participation, mentorship, assessment, program review, and student recruitment.
  • Maintaining accurate records and being available for student consultation.
  • Representing the college professionally and engaging in professional development.

All faculty acknowledge that payment may be withheld until grades are submitted.

Supervision and Conditions

This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Instruction, may supervise student employees, and requires background checks and adherence to safety policies. Travel and evening/weekend hours may be required.

Working Conditions

The role involves sitting, walking, standing, driving, lifting up to 50 lbs., and constant communication. Work is performed using computers and standard office equipment. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for disabilities.
