The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College assist students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available which complement the teaching process. Faculty are committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities. While teaching is the most important role, faculty also serve learners when engaged in scholarly endeavors and service activities.
The college seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in the art of teaching and passionate about extending academic opportunities to all students. Colorado Mountain College is an institution offering associate and bachelor’s degrees with a focus on positive classroom experiences and excellent outcomes for all students. CMC does not conduct research but instead focuses on excellence in teaching and learning in diverse classroom settings and programs.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for dynamic classroom experiences and excellent academic opportunities and student support.
Pre‑requisites:
- Credentialed to teach the specific program or eligible to be credentialed. Ideal qualifications include a minimum of a master’s degree in the specific field for the position or a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in a related field. Minimum of one‑year full‑time teaching experience, or equivalent as an adjunct instructor. Higher education teaching experience preferred.
- An equivalent or applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Special skills or abilities: knowledge of pedagogy, teaching experience equating to two years, strong background in computers and technology, excellent organizational skills, general office skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, ability to research and analyze data, work independently towards established goals and deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties:
- Teach classes as assigned by designated supervisor.
- Prepare appropriate lesson plans for each course in accordance with approved objectives.
- Develop and submit course outlines and syllabi to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with development of measurable course objectives and plans.
- Develop a professional relationship with students and staff that encourages communication.
- Maintain accurate course records of students and complete course forms as required.
- Be available for student consultation.
- Assist in the recruitment of students, as appropriate.
- Assist in the evaluation of curriculum and instructional performance, when agreed upon and appropriate.
- Represent the college in a professional manner throughout the communities and college district by promoting a positive public image.
- Engage in professional development as required for credentialing.
Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and enhance learning. Service activities include participation in campus and college committees, relevant projects, mentoring peers, assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.
All faculty acknowledge that final payment of any contract may be withheld until submission of grades is complete.
Supervision & ConditionsThis position reports to the Assistant Dean of Instruction or designee. The position may supervise student employees. Successful completion of a background check and, where applicable, a motor vehicle records report is required. Employees must adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. The role may require travel and evenings and/or weekend hours.
Working conditions include constant sitting with occasional walking, standing, driving, handling objects up to 50 lbs, frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements. Communication is constant written and oral. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
