Enforcement and Removal Assistant (OA)

Join to apply for the Enforcement and Removal Assistant (OA) role at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Summary

These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), in multiple locations specified in this announcement. Salary ranges are adjusted to include locality payment for selected duty locations. General Schedule locality pay tables may be found under Salaries & Wages.

Duties
  • Research detainee history using multiple sources to establish identity and citizenship and manage detainee and non‑detained dockets.
  • Provide administrative support to managers, supervisors, or staff by assisting with day‑to‑day management of office activities.
  • Summarize and tabulate detainee information from various reports and utilize databases and automated systems.
  • Generate and verify detainee reports, encounters, charging documents, studies, data quality, and create and revise spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and presentations.
  • Exercise quality control over bond paperwork.
Conditions of Employment
  • You must be a U.S. citizen.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation, which may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, and certain criminal offenses and illegal drug use or possession.
  • Selective Service registration or exemption is required for males born after 12/31/59.
  • One‑year probationary period and pre‑employment drug test may be required.
  • If you receive a conditional offer, you must complete an Optional Form 306 and sign the accuracy statement.
  • DHS uses e‑Verify to confirm eligibility to work in the United States.
  • All federal employees must have direct deposit for salary payments.
  • Incentives may be authorized pending fund availability.
  • License and pre‑employment physical requirements are not required.

Qualifications

You must meet the minimum qualifications and typing requirement as noted below.

Minimum Qualifications for GS‑05

Specialized

Experience:

At least one year of experienced equivalent to GS‑04, including:

  • Performing recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Compiling, maintaining, and updating automated records.
  • Responding to procedural information requests.

Education Substitution: A four‑year college education above high school, completed in an accredited program, is acceptable.

Combination of

Education and Experience:

Any combination of post‑high‑school education and experience that meets the GS‑05 requirements is acceptable.

Minimum Qualifications for GS‑06

Specialized

Experience:

At least one year of experience equivalent to GS‑05, including:

  • Processing individuals detained by law enforcement.
  • Performing file searches and assembling documentation.
  • Responding to routine requests regarding legal or law enforcement policies.
Typing Requirement

Type at least 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors on a 5‑minute sample. Self‑certification may be accepted through the Occupational Questionnaire.
