Position Summary
Inspect, repair and maintain school bus fleet and associated vehicles and equipment. This position reports to the Lead Technician or Fleet Manager.
Essential Job Functions- Repair all school buses and vehicles.
- Routine and regular servicing on vehicles and trailers.
- Inspect school vehicles at their required intervals.
- Use electronic and other diagnostic tools to identify, locate, and predict necessary repairs.
- Maintain records of all vehicle inspections, repairs and services.
- Maintain accurate and neat inventory and storage of tools and parts.
- Maintain a clean, safe, neat bus barn facility in accordance with all best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Drive or tow vehicles where needed to accomplish repairs, inspections or services.
- Work with other technicians to accomplish shop and department priorities.
- Monitor operation tempo and schedules to forecast needs and prevent potential shortfalls.
- Monitor two-way communications and assist with issues as they occur.
- Listen to drivers' concerns and instruct drivers as needed.
- Attend workshops, conferences and training events as directed. Prepare training materials and present training to various audiences as directed.
- Drive school bus routes as directed.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Job Requirements Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
ExperienceMedium and Heavy truck mechanical experience required. Light automotive mechanical experience is a plus. School bus mechanical experience is highly preferred.
Required Skills- Ability to obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver’s License Class B, with BP2‑S endorsements. Must follow all CDL, CDE, and School District driver qualifications including background checks and drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to obtain a CDE Annual Inspector’s Certificate (for an additional $1/ hour).
- Be a positive role model for drivers, able to communicate and instruct them on the proper use and driver level maintenance of their vehicle.
- Basic computer skills.
- Must be able to lift items weighing 75 pounds, stoop, bend and be in good physical condition.
- Must be able to work on foot for a full work day, other times while prone or while working on overhead items or in confined spaces.
- Must be able to physically manipulate a variety of tools and equipment.
Hourly range: $26.49–$32.24 per hour, depending on qualified experience.
Days worked: 260 days per year (with paid time off, paid vacation days, paid time off for holidays, and district non-work days such as during winter break and spring breaks).
