Public Health Programs Educator – Gila County Community College

Purpose of the JobThe position develops, designs, prepares and delivers public health program curriculum to elementary, middle and secondary school students in school or teen center settings. Program curriculum includes teen pregnancy prevention, personal hygiene, healthy relationships, tobacco use prevention, opioid overdose prevention, oral hygiene, bullying and sun safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- 30% Develop, coordinate, implement and present complex County public health education programs for students; design printed materials and other educational tools; instruct and supervise students during regular school hours, after‑school or weekends.
- 30% Represent the County Health Department to school administrators, principals, school boards and parents; coordinate with community organizations and partners; manage equipment, supplies and quality‑management activities.
- 20% Oversee quality‑management efforts, prepare surveys to assess program effectiveness, monitor progress, report to management, establish and track program contracts and maintain program databases in compliance with state, federal and local regulations.
- 10% Apply basic principles of health equity and equality in teaching and communication methods.
- 10% Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with parents and internal/external agencies and community partners such as school districts and local organizations.
- 10% Perform other duties as assigned.
Provides research support on project and team budgets and allocates resources for community service projects.
Communication Duties- Oral: gives presentations, explains procedures, responds to inquiries and participates in meetings.
- Written: creates or edits documents, memos, emails, reports, proposals and grants.
Interacts extensively with employees, customers, vendors, regulatory bodies and other groups via telephone, e‑mail and in‑person. Frequently interacts with customers (more than 25% but less than 40% of a year).
Minimum Education / ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Education or closely related field. Two years of experience working with students in a teaching setting or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Professional Credentials- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate.
- Valid Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Knowledge:
Education, training and database management. - Skills:
Active learning, critical thinking, customer service, public speaking (large groups), problem recognition, scientific problem solving and troubleshooting. - Abilities:
Deductive reasoning, focus, multitasking, quick mental response and calm demeanor under stress.
- Routinely stands to present and attend to customers.
- Regularly sits to complete reports, operate computers and attend other duties.
- Lifts under 25 lbs. regularly; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
Office and classroom environments. Generally not exposed to safety risk; may encounter verbal abuse from customers or citizens. Follow written safety procedures and manuals. Potential errors can result in unfavorable public perceptions and legal ramifications.
