The Gloucester City School District is seeking a dynamic Early Childhood Special Educator.
Essential Performance Responsibilities- Regularly assess, monitor, and document student progress toward Preschool Disabled (PSD) IEP goals using developmentally appropriate tools, observational notes, and anecdotal records
- Participate in IEP meetings, contributing expertise in early childhood development, goal-setting, accommodations, and individualized student plans
- Develop and implement a curriculum aligned with NJ Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards and district goals, integrating developmentally appropriate practices
- Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured classroom environment that supports exploration, play-based learning, and individualized/small-group instruction
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies tailored to early learners, including multi-sensory approaches, ABA techniques (if applicable), visual supports, and hands-on interventions
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that foster language, social-emotional, cognitive, motor, and adaptive skill development
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and adjust instructional methods to meet individual developmental needs, providing targeted small-group or one-on-one instruction as appropriate
- Promote social skills, self-regulation, and early citizenship principles through modeling, explicit instruction, and consistent routines
- Maintain accurate and complete records for student progress, attendance, assessments, and required documentation in compliance with district procedures and state regulations
- Establish strong communication with families, encourage parental involvement, and provide updates that support learning and generalization across home and school settings
- Implement and uphold district and classroom behavior expectations centered on positive reinforcement, visual supports, and developmentally appropriate behavioral strategies
- Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility, with P–3 and Special Education endorsements
- Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and/or other specialized instructional programming preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective special education instructional methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive, supportive learning environment
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
- Successful criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status required
