The Role

To promote, develop and maintain a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible working and learning environment across UCAS through compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, regulations policies and best practice standards, to foster a positive safety culture that supports the wellbeing of employees, contractors, visitors and other stakeholders

Key accountabilities
  • Provide professional health, safety, and environmental support and advice across all business areas, ensuring a health and safety culture and support managers in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain systems, policies, procedures and processes for the management of health and safety risks, and environmental impacts in the workplace to ensure the adherence to all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and agreed internal standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits at Rosehill, Woburn House and offsite events as required to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate workplace risks through effective monitoring and controls.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, prepare detailed reports and implement preventative measures. Ensuring the reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences to meet statutory obligations.

Skills, qualifications, and experience
  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • Significant experience as an HSE Officer or similar role.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and standards.
  • Significant experience conducting risk assessments, audits and investigations.
  • Excellent communication and training delivery skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and work collaboratively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

Salary - up to £40,000
