Job Summary
We require registrar grade Resident Doctors to work in the medical Same Day Emergency Care Medicine Department at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospital. Post holders will rotate between both sites. These posts are not recognised for training but offer a good experience in general and acute medicine. The posts are initially for 12 months and provide an excellent opportunity within the medical same day emergency department on both sites, seeing patients with a variety of presentations.
A normal working day is expected to be 9-5. There is no night shift. Out of hours and weekend work is expected, averaging about one long day a week and one weekend every six weeks. A protected one day a month is provided for pursuing other interests (e.g. specialty clinics) and a half day per week for non‑clinical work such as QI, audit, and service development.

We work in partnership with Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine colleagues and other specialties to manage medical admissions, run the acute unselected take, and engage in multidisciplinary teamwork and complex discharge planning.

- Full General Medical Council registration.
- MRCP (or equivalent).
- ALS or equivalent.
- Proven procedural competence in line with the IMT3 curriculum.
- Experience in independently managing medical admissions and running the acute unselected take.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Familiarity with clinical governance.
- A willingness to accept responsibility and provide leadership.
- Independent proficiency in lumbar puncture, Seldinger chest and ascitic drains.
- Higher degree.
- Teaching qualification, management or leadership qualification.
- Point‑of‑care ultrasound.
- Peer‑reviewed publications.
- Experience working in Same Day Emergency Care.
- Experience of service development.
- Awareness of current developments within the NHS.
