Trust Clinical Fellow - Haematology

The post is a full-time Trust Clinical Fellow position to join the clinical Haematology department at Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals. The department supports doctors to develop their careers and achieve training posts. The post is based at the Regional Cancer Centre at Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) and Gloucester Royal Hospital (GRH) on a rotational basis. The Consultant team includes 9 Consultants, 3-4 Specialty Trainees (St3+), 3 Specialty Doctors, 1 ST1/2, 1 FY1, 1 Transfusion Practitioner, 1 ANP, 7 Specialist Nurses and 3 non-medical prescribers, with resident doctors supporting inpatient wards on a rotational basis.
Mainduties of the job
The post involves primarily outpatient work with reviewing patients during and after treatment. Training will be provided to undertake chemotherapy assessment and prescribing in outpatient clinics and on the day unit role will include ward work covering the inpatient unit (2 dedicated oncology and haematology wards, 40 beds) and the Acute Haematology and Oncology Unit. The post holder will be involved in management of and referrals from other departments.
This post is suited to a candidate considering a career in haematology and seeking experience prior to a haematology training post.
Responsibilities include:
- The appointee will support delivery of high-quality care to patients with haematological disorders
- Examination and treatment of in-patients and out-patients referred to the Department
- Support clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff
- Participation in undergraduate teaching
- Compliance with Trust mandatory training requirements
- Active participation in the departmental education programme

Person Specification Qualifications and Training- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration at time of appointment
- Completion of F1/F2; evidence of achievement of F1/F2 competences at application or by appointment
- MRCP exam part 1
- Up-to-date knowledge and safe practice
- Demonstrable English language skills for effective communication with patients and colleagues; examples include: undertook undergraduate medical training in English or IELTS/EC or equivalent meeting recruitment requirements
- Out-of-hours experience relevant to the job
- Relevant medical clinical knowledge and ability to apply it
- Clinical judgment and risk management; knowing when to seek help and how to prioritise
- Practical skills required for the job
- Ability to work effectively in different clinical settings
- Previous experience of working in Haematology
- Effective written and spoken communication; ability to adapt language to the situation
- Ability to work under pressure, flexibility
- Team working and valuing input of other professionals
- Willingness to engage in appraisal, self-awareness and openness to feedback
