A warm and inclusive primary school in Gloucester is looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to join its supportive team. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is passionate about guiding children with challenging behaviour and Special Educational Needs (SEND) within a positive, nurturing environment.

You’ll work across Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2, helping pupils manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and re‑engage with their learning.

We are looking for a caring, proactive individual with either experience or a strong interest in supporting children with behavioural or emotional needs. You’ll provide both 1:1 and small group support, collaborating closely with teachers and the wider school team to encourage positive behaviour and emotional growth.

  • Full-time, term‑time only (8:30 am – 3:30 pm)
Key Responsibilities of a Behaviour Support Assistant
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with behavioural and SEND needs, helping them regulate emotions and participate fully in class.
  • Implement tailored behaviour management strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers to maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support with de‑escalation and proactive management of challenging behaviour.
  • Work alongside the SENCO, teaching staff, and parents to create and review individualised support plans.
  • Promote wellbeing and safety during lessons, break times, and school activities.
