Are you an experienced Machinist looking to step into teaching, training and developing the next generation of engineers?
Our client, a highly reputable engineering training company in Gloucester, is seeking a Machining Instructor to deliver high-quality practical training in manual turning/milling and CNC machining to Level 3 engineering apprentices.
No prior teaching experience is required – full training, mentoring and qualifications are provided.
About the Role
You will deliver hands-on training to apprentices in:
* Manual Turning (screw cutting, knurling, turning to fine tolerances, use of steadies)
* Manual Milling (slots, multisided shapes, dividing heads)
* CNC machining
* Quality checks, interpreting drawings and producing components to specification
You will also assess learner work, mark knowledge questions, provide constructive feedback, and ensure apprentices develop safe, accurate and industry-ready machining skills.
What’s on Offer
* Starting salary £34,000, rising to £35,000 upon completion of AET (Instructor qualification – usually 6 months)
* Salary increases to £38,000 when AVA (Assessor qualification – typically 9–12 months) is completed
* Both teaching and assessing qualifications fully funded and supported in-house
* 36.25-hour week:
* Mon–Thu: 08:00–16:15
* Fri: 08:00–13:15
* 25 days annual leave + bank holidays + your birthday off
* Excellent pension scheme and ongoing professional development
* Friendly, supportive training environment with long-standing engineering staff
About You
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
* Strong hands-on experience in manual machining (turning and/or milling)
* Knowledge of CNC machining (advantageous but not essential)
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and produce precision components
* Passion for passing skills on to the next generation
This role is perfect for a skilled machinist, toolmaker or CNC/Manual Turner/Miller looking to step away from shifts and into a rewarding education-based career.
