Position: Second in Mathematics: KS5 Coordinator (0.8 - full time)

Our Maths department has exceptional expertise, consequently we are able to be flexible in whether we appoint an ECT, an experienced teacher or an aspirant Subject Leader looking for a second in department role. To be clear, we are advertising for either a Maths teacher or a Second in department.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage and develop specified areas of the KS5 Mathematics Curriculum as directed by the ASL for Mathematics
  • Support in raising standards for provision and outcomes for post‑16 Mathematics qualifications
  • Work with the ASL for Mathematics & Computing to ensure the provision of an appropriate broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for KS5 Mathematics
  • Work with other Mathematics leaders to develop the vision for Mathematics in school
  • Maintain high standards of teaching and learning across Key Stage 5 in Maths through continuously developing and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning
  • Maintain expert knowledge of Teaching and Learning at KS5, keeping abreast of the latest research and publications, attending courses and disseminating best practice to department members
  • Develop and enhance the teaching practice of others including a mentor/coach role for ITT/ECT students within the department
Strategic Planning
  • Work with colleagues to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans for KS5 Mathematics developments in school
  • Assist in leading the development of appropriate syllabi, resources, schemes of learning, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in KS5 Mathematics
  • Promote Mathematics activities amongst staff, parents/carers and students
  • Implement School Policies and Procedures, e.g. Homework Policy, Marking Policy, Behaviour Policy
  • Ensure that Health and Safety policies and practices, including Risk Assessments, are updated and in line with national requirements, liaising with the School’s Health and Safety Manager
Curriculum
  • Lead developments in KS5 Mathematics activities and Curriculum Area
  • Keep up to date with national developments in areas responsible for and teaching practices and methodologies, adapting policy and practice accordingly
  • Actively monitor and respond to Mathematics developments and initiatives at national, regional and local levels
  • Ensure colleagues are fully aware of national developments in Mathematics
  • liaise with the ASL for Mathematics to ensure delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high‑quality Mathematics programme that complements the School’s Strategic and Development Plan
  • Actively promote Mathematics competitions within the curriculum and take the lead on one or two per annum
