This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated doctor to develop skills in medical education alongside clinical practice. The Clinical Teaching Fellow will play a key role in delivering and developing teaching for postgraduate-entry medical students undertaking a PBL-based curriculum.

Main duties of the job

12 month post offers a unique 80/20 split, with the majority of time dedicated to education. The successful candidate will supervise small-group teaching, facilitate PBL sessions, contribute to curriculum development, and support student assessment and pastoral care.

In addition, the Fellow will maintain clinical skills through 20% protected clinical time in a specialty aligned with their interests, supporting career development.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities/Key Responsibilities

This post is offered with a 80/20 split of educational responsibilities (80%) and supernumerary clinical role of the successful candidate's choice (20%), subject to discussion with the relevant clinical department.

  • Undertake clinical duties equivalent to 20% of working time within a chosen specialty
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and skills
  • Contribute to patient care in line with Trust policies and GMC standards
  • Participate in clinical governance and audit activities where appropriate
  • To deliver high quality teaching to TCMS postgraduate-entry medical students in line with the TCMS curriculum requirements

  • Deliver high-quality teaching to TCMS postgraduate-entry medical students
  • Facilitate Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions
  • Develop and deliver tutorials, clinical skills teaching, and simulation sessions
  • Support student learning through feedback, mentoring, and pastoral care
  • Contribute to curriculum design, review, and innovation
  • Participate in student assessment processes (formative and summative)
  • Engage in faculty development and educational training opportunities
  • Maintain a teaching portfolio

Successful candidates are encouraged to join University appointed Three Counties Clinical Teaching Fellows based in Worcester for CPD and training in PBL techniques. Opportunities to become further involved in TCMS teaching and facilitation will be supported. Support will be available if the post-holder wishes to apply for applicable teaching qualifications.
