FTE (18.5 hours per week)

This is a fixed term role until 31st August 2029

This role is based at our City Campus in the Centre of Gloucester with agile working possible according to our flexible working policy.

About the school

The Psychological Sciences Community is part of the School of Education, Health and Science. In the Community we have four undergraduate courses:
Psychology, Criminology and Psychology, Forensic Psychology and, Health and Clinical Psychology and three postgraduate courses:
Health Psychology, Forensic Psychology and a Psychology Conversion course.

We boast a large portfolio of research expertise and links with local charities, trusts and other organisations.

About the role

A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in combining teaching and research experience within an academic career pathway. The post is split equally between teaching responsibilities and postgraduate research activity, typically leading to an MSc by Research in Psychology.

This is a full-time commitment, comprising 0.5 FTE employed for teaching duties and 0.5 FTE dedicated to postgraduate research. The research component includes a funded degree, with home tuition fees covered by the institution. International applicants may be considered, although they would be required to cover the difference between home and international tuition fee rates. Your role in teaching will be to support lecturers to deliver sessions, support students during practical sessions and workshops, and eventually help create and deliver sessions.

We have an extremely successful GTA programme, with our first two cohorts gaining lecturing posts or further research positions immediately. We pride ourselves in coaching new, less experienced, aspiring academics to develop their skills, confidence and portfolio to ensure you can create, deliver and grow in your teaching career.

We have a range of technology, expertise and facilities which will be available for the postholder to use for research, training and teaching purposes, including EEG, VR, eye tracking, and more.

How to apply

Applicants are invited to lead one of two projects as part of a postgraduate research degree (typically MSc; see attached). Applicants should indicate their preferred project(s) and include a section in their application outlining their interest and relevant experience in the chosen area.

Each applicant should submit two items:

  • Their application form (a CV and cover letter are not required)
  • A project proposal which aligns to one of the two projects attached to this post, this should be no longer than two sides of A4.
  • Contact details
