About the school

The School of Arts, Culture & Environment traces its distinguished history back to 1852 when the Cheltenham School of Art was established. Today, as one of the three constituent Schools in the University of Gloucestershire, the School currently has over 2300 students and offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as Postgraduate Study & PhD's.

Subjects offered by the School of Creative Arts include Humanities, Journalism, Film & TV, Art & Design, Performing Arts, Photography, and Architecture, Construction & Environment.

The Department of Performance includes three courses, Acting, Musical Theatre and Dance. You will be joining one or more of these courses when you teach.

About the roles

We don't just study the theory of Drama and Dance here at the University of Gloucestershire, we put it into practice. Our teaching is intensely practical, with real world partnerships, projects and productions. We strive to support our students to get out into the world with the right skills to help them become visible, viable practitioners.

We're now looking for new people to join our team: you will be teaching across our BA Acting and BA Dance courses, engaging our students with their ever‑evolving craft and the arts sector more widely. You'll join a team of experts and teach on courses which are being constantly refined to bring out the best in our students.

We work flexibly; we want to be innovative and emulate best practice. We need people with expertise in the following areas:

• Theatre in Education
• Foundations of Choreography
• Advanced teaching practice (Dance)

If you have one or more of the particular specialisms above, we can employ you as a part‑time hourly‑paid lecturer, which will allow you flexibility. We want people to join our team who will bring a dynamic and contemporary understanding of current practice and who can motivate and enthuse our students to be the best they can be. Your experience as a practitioner matters to us and while teaching experience is not essential it is a real bonus for us.

Teaching would begin in September 2026.

You are expected to deliver and mark your module(s) within the appropriate time frames. All teaching will take place in person, and you will be expected to be on campus. You will be offered a short training/expectations session before commencing employment, which you will be paid to attend.
