Job Overview

As a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant you will build a positive and trusting relationship with a primary‑aged pupil, support emotional regulation and social development, help the pupil access learning in the classroom, implement behaviour support strategies, and work alongside the class teacher and SENCO.

Responsibilities
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with a primary‑aged pupil.
  • Support the child's emotional regulation and social development.
  • Help the pupil access learning within the classroom.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies.
  • Work alongside the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Provide consistent encouragement and reassurance throughout the school day.
  • Support the development of confidence, self‑esteem, and independence.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals where required.
Qualifications
  • Holds a degree in Psychology or a related subject.
  • Genuine interest in SEN, SEMH and child development.
  • Patient, empathetic, emotionally resilient.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Understands behaviour as a form of communication.
  • Can remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
  • Previous experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals desirable but not essential.
  • Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship or skilled worker visa accepted).
  • Minimum two recent references covering the last two years.
  • Up‑to‑date DBS/police check, or willingness to obtain one.

Essential Criteria
  • Available to work 5 days a week (term time only), Monday‑Friday 8:30‑15:30.
