We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated PE Teacher to join the founding team at GAIL Academy. This role will involve delivering high-quality Physical Education and PPA cover across all key stages
, working with pupils within our formal, semi-formal and SEMH class groups
. As a specialist school for pupils with Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD), including autistic pupils, those with speech and language differences, and pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we are looking for a teacher who can inspire a love of physical activity whilst adapting learning to meet a wide range of needs.
The successful candidate will be PE-trained, passionate about making a difference, and committed to creating inclusive, engaging and successful learning experiences for every pupil. They will play a key role in promoting physical wellbeing, teamwork, resilience and confidence, whilst supporting pupils to develop positive attitudes towards healthy lifestyles. Experience of working with pupils with SEND, particularly autistic pupils or those presenting with SEMH needs, would be highly desirable, although applications are welcomed from teachers who share our child-centred ethos and enthusiasm for helping every pupil feel safe, experience success and achieve their full potential.
Interviews will be held at The PEAK Academy in Dursley or The Springfields Academy in Calne. We recognise that this is further away than GAIL Academy and may present a travel challenge for some candidates. If attending in person would be difficult, please let us know and we will be happy to explore alternative arrangements where possible.
About the role- Planning and delivering creative, engaging lessons that meet diverse learning needs
- Supporting pupils with autism through specialist teaching strategies and interventions
- Assessing, monitoring, and tracking pupil progress to ensure strong outcomes
- Working collaboratively with support staff, SENCO, therapists, and families
- Creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all pupils can succeed
- Supporting pupils’
social, emotional, and communication development - Taking part in wider school life, including meetings, activities, and events
- Maintaining accurate records, including attendance, behaviour, and progress tracking
We are looking for a professional who:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching pupils with SEND and/or autism
- Proven ability to engage learners and drive progress
- Strong understanding of assessment and tracking systems
- Knowledge of autism support strategies and interventions
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
Gloucestershire Academy for Inspirational Learning is a specialist school for 200 pupils aged 4-16 opening at the start of 2027, with pupils phasing into the school across three years.
The school’s designation is Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) and will cater for autistic pupils, those with speech and language differences, SEMH and those with learning differences in their cognitive profiles.
The school will be based in the Wheat ridge area of Gloucestershire in a brand-new purpose-built building with outstanding facilities specifically tailored for SEND learners.
