The Financial Accountant position will closely support the Chief Accountant with completing month end accounts, statutory reporting and maintaining strong financial controls. This involves completing financial reviews, financial postings and producing group reporting packs.
The ideal candidate will be a strong team player with a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude who can inspire and motivate other team members. They will have strong technical accounting knowledge and excellent problem solving and numerical skills, ideally gained within a SME environment or from practice.
Key responsibilities- Production of monthly financial accounts, including group consolidation and intercompany eliminations inline with Group reporting deadlines.
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts, corporation tax returns and compliance reporting, under the guidance of the Chief Accountant and CFO.
- Manage IFRS 16 lease accounting, inventory valuation, intercompany reconciliations and the preparation of corporation and deferred tax estimates.
- Identifying and implementing control based improvements to systems and processes and maintaining the internal control framework in conjunction with Group Internal Audit.
- A key liaison with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process, providing accurate and complete documentation, to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
- Produce commentaries to explain the key drivers of financial performance.
- Coordinate the submission of ESG-related data and reports to Group.
- Support the Chief Accountant and CFO with any ad-hoc requests.
- Approval of key financial transactions, including bank payments, supplier master data changes and purchase orders.
- Work collaboratively with the wider team on change initiatives.
- Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA)
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, IFRS 16 highly desirable
- Excellent Excel skills and a high level of IT literacy
- Previous audit and statutory reporting experience is highly desirable
- Significant experience with ERP and accounting software, particularly Sage 200
- Experience of IBM TM1/TM2 would be advantageous
- Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrable ability to consistently deliver accurate and timely financial information to challenging timescales
- Self-starter who is capable of working independently, as well as part of a team
- Inquisitive attitude with a desire to drive continuous improvement to systems and processes
