The RoleReporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will play a critical role leading the transactional finance team, communicating with the wider organisation, whilst ensuring robust financial controls, accurate financial reporting and strong statutory compliance across the organisation and its related entities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, developing and supporting the transactional finance team (a team of five).
- Leading the production of statutory accounts and statutory returns.
- Taking responsibility for the financial aspects of the annual audit and acting as the key contact for external auditors.
- Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across the organisation.
- Maintaining and improving financial controls, systems and processes.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant charity accounting requirements, SORP and statutory regulations.
- Overseeing tax returns, payroll accounting and other statutory reporting.
- Coaching, mentoring and managing the performance of the team, whilst promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Supporting the Finance Director and deputising when required.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) with significant experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance position.

You will have strong experience in:
- Producing statutory accounts.
- Managing external audits and statutory reporting.
- Leading and developing finance teams.
- Financial controls, governance and compliance.
- Financial systems and advanced Excel.
- Communicating complex financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.

Experience with in the charity or not-for-profit sector would be advantageous, as would knowledge of the Charities SORP framework and experience supporting Boards, Trustees or Finance Committees.
Salary and Benefits- Salary of c.£65,000 - £70,000 per annum.
- Full-time, hybrid working with 3 days in the office and up to 2 days remotely.
