We are looking for a motivated and proactive Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy Stores and Procurement team. This varied role combines operational leadership within the pharmacy supply chain with direct patient‑facing responsibilities, supporting the safe, effective and efficient delivery of pharmacy services across the Trust.
Working closely with the Senior Pharmacy Technician, you will help oversee stores and distribution activities, ensure compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and Wholesale Dealer Authorisation (WDA) requirements, and act as a key point of support for the wider team. You will also contribute to dispensary services, medicines optimisation initiatives, medicines reconciliation, patient counselling and discharge planning, making a direct impact on patient care.
Based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, this is an excellent role for a skilled pharmacy professional looking to develop their leadership, operational and clinical experience within a dynamic hospital environment.
Additional working pattern details:
Monday to Friday, Providing weekend, Bank Holiday and Late cover as per rota.
- Support the day‑to‑day running of the Pharmacy Stores, Procurement and Distribution service, ensuring the safe, efficient and cost‑effective supply of medicines across the Trust.
- Provide operational support to the wider team, contribute to service development, maintain compliance with GDP and WDA requirements, and support procurement, stock control and distribution processes.
- Involved in supplier management, medicines shortages, contract compliance, staff training and service improvement initiatives.
- As an accredited checking technician, conduct final accuracy checking of prescriptions and controlled drugs, dispense medicines for inpatients, outpatients and discharge patients, and provide advice and support to healthcare professionals and patients.
- Support medicines optimisation and discharge planning by undertaking medicines reconciliation, assessing patients’ own medicines, facilitating timely discharge and counselling patients on the safe and effective use of their medicines.
- Work closely with pharmacists, doctors and nursing staff to improve patient outcomes and promote best practice.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Medicines Optimisation qualification, or willingness to work towards this.
- Strong clinical and dispensary knowledge with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work confidently with patients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Good IT skills and the ability to prioritise workload, make sound decisions and work accurately under pressure.
- Experience managing workload effectively within a team to meet service demands.
- Knowledge of pharmacy stores, distribution and medicines supply processes.
- Experience working in a busy hospital pharmacy dispensary environment.
- Self‑motivated and proactive, with excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
