Job overview
Clinical Vascular Scientist (or a Sonographer experienced in Vascular Ultrasound) positions for a 12‑month fixed term, with possibility to transition to a substantive post. Full‑time (1.0 WTE, 37.5 hours per week) in the Vascular Laboratories at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Working Monday to Friday, 8:30‑4:30, with flexible hours considered. Work across Cheltenham General and Gloucester Royal Hospitals with shuttle service.
Mainduties of the job
- Perform and report on a range of vascular ultrasound scans.
- Manage the daily patient workload.
- Participate in research, audits, and teaching activities.
- Supervise trainee vascular scientists.
- Assist with administrative duties and operational management of the department.
The post-holder will deliver safe, effective, and timely diagnostic vascular ultrasound services across the Gloucestershire and Swindon vascular network, operating with complex imaging equipment and providing autonomous patient assessment, reporting, and advice to clinicians.
Working for our organisationCollaboration with a multidisciplinary team including Vascular Consultants, Radiologists, Nursing Specialists and Surgical Practitioners. The laboratory is equipped with Philips EPIQ 7, EPIQ 5, and Inno Site ultrasound machines, and uses an electronic reporting system with CRIS/PACS.
Person specification Qualifications- Recognised degree in life or medical sciences.
- MSc in life or medical sciences (or working towards it).
- Active registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Membership of a professional organisation (CSVS).
- Competent in basic vascular ultrasound examinations: extracranial carotid arteries, upper and lower limb arterial/venous assessments, aorto‑iliac examinations including post‑EVAR.
- Substantial experience in vascular ultrasound and extended practice such as AVF assessment, iliac vein stent evaluation, and contrast ultrasound.
- Specialised knowledge of clinical procedures and practices in vascular ultrasound.
- Advanced knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology and vascular surgical treatment options.
- Proven knowledge of haemodynamics and quality assurance principles in vascular ultrasound service.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Ability to prioritise and manage own work.
- Understanding of complex equipment and hospital imaging/e‑patient management systems.
