Job OverviewThe Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO) provides essential clinical and administrative support to the audiology service. Clinical duties include basic hearing‑aid repairs, otoscopy, telephone reviews, patient advice, and assisting with paediatric assessments. Administrative responsibilities comprise coordinating equipment repairs, managing clinic lists, earmould processing, stock control, and maintaining patient management systems.
Main Duties- Provide frontline clinical support: hearing‑aid repair, otoscopy, telephone reviews, and paediatric assessment assistance.
- Coordinate equipment repairs with Medical Engineering, suppliers, and IT; prepare clinic equipment and lists.
- Process earmoulds, manage stock, ordering, and oversee the Hearing Services ATO mailbox.
- Handle invoice processing and support the Audiology PMS, Trak Care, and other booking systems.
- Supervise ATOs and related staff, contribute to audit, quality‑improvement, and research activities.
- Maintain effective communication with ENT, NHS departments, suppliers, GP practices, and community organisations.
- GCSE C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy.
- Experience using Trust IT systems and patient data management (Trak Care, Audit Base).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including telephone manner.
- Teamwork and leadership capability to model Trust values.
- Reliable, adaptable and dependable.
- Creative and flexible approach.
- Demonstrated IT skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Completion of the British Association of Audiologists certified Assistant Technical Officer course.
- Knowledge of hearing device service and hearing‑impaired patient care.
- Experience in customer service and working with hearing‑impaired individuals.
The post‑holder receives ongoing training, supervision, and clinical support to develop and maintain required competencies, with opportunities for progression within the Audiology service.
