AboutThe Role
Ecclesiastical Insurance, who are proudly part of Benefact Group are looking for a Technical Underwriter to join our Schemes Team in our Gloucester office on a hybrid basis. As Technical Underwriter you will act as the technical specialist with responsibility for case work and the delivery of coaching, training, procedures and practices, technical updates, working with key internal and external stakeholders.
WhatYou'll Be Doing
- Underwrite and manage new and existing business profitably within authority limits, aligned to Ecclesiastical strategy, while managing own caseload effectively.
- Monitor and review individual scheme performance at portfolio level.
- Deliver high-quality customer service by planning and prioritising workload, meeting SLAs, and providing on‑site underwriting support when required.
- Act as a key referral point for the wider schemes team and liaison between head office underwriting and wider customer service functions.
- Undertake underwriting quality audits within the Schemes team and also Scheme brokers with delegated authority, analyse results and identify training needs.
- Support team capability through coaching, identifying training needs, and delivering training both internally and externally, alongside occasional team manager and project support.
- Maintain strong internal and external relationships by promoting effective communication methods and representing the business at partner and industry events.
- Ensure compliance and continuous improvement by adhering to regulatory requirements, handling complaints, acting on audit results, and developing technical knowledge through ongoing learning.
- In depth insurance technical knowledge.
- Commitment to deliver exceptional service contributing both as an individual and as an effective part of a team.
- Experience of managing and influencing internal and external stakeholders, at all levels.
- The ability to build collaborative, productive relationships and negotiate at all levels.
- Able to act as a coach, empowering others within a commercial environment.
- Experience of the ability to analyse and produce relevant reports.
- Understanding of all relevant regulations to deliver good customer outcomes.
- Understanding of data protection and importance of confidentiality.
- Pro‑active with desire to continuously improve.
- Experience of portfolio management and ability to analyse and produce relevant MI.
- Experience of conducting training to individuals and groups.
- ACII or DIP qualified.
