Job TitleAssociate Computational Materials Modeler
OverviewSupport research in materials application and macrostructure design through computer modeling. Collaborate with teams to assist in discovering structure-process-property correlations and applying known engineering theories and principles to address material-design requirements. Provide support in material selection and design to meet product development goals.
Roles & Responsibilities- Assist in performing computational modeling, such as finite element analysis and fluid dynamics, to evaluate material and system performance.
- Work with materials such as metals, ceramics, plastics, and composites to address design requirements.
- Analyze test results and apply findings to aid in the improvement of materials or product designs.
- Support the development of new products by applying engineering knowledge and skills while expanding knowledge of applicable engineering tools.
- Investigate designs to improve performance, optimize processes, or solve standard technical problems.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and team members to address customer concerns and contribute to product/process development and improvement.
- May conduct research to validate simulation models.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times in designated work areas.
- Master’s degree in Materials Science, Ceramics, Mechanical Engineering or related field with 1-5 years of materials or mechanical engineering combined with simulation experience.
- Numerical modeling expertise in predicting and validating mechanical performance, distortion, and stresses as a function of temperature in complex structures and with modeling mass transport in chemical reactors preferred.
- 1-5 years of experience in ANSYS Finite Element Analysis and/or Fluent applications (preferred) or similar (Abaqus, COMSOL) and CAD packages Solidworks (preferred) with a track record of demonstrated experience and accomplishment.
- Familiarity with numerical methods and applied mathematics.
- Ability to learn and apply engineering tools for modeling and analysis, such as ANSYS Mechanical, Fluent, Rocky, or Solidworks.
- Experience with error analysis, and demonstrated ability in calculating confidence limits for simulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organized and detail-oriented approach to work.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a diverse environment.
