Overview
The Colorado School of Mines, a public R1 research university focused on applied science and engineering, invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions in Quantum Science and Engineering. Open in the departments of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Physics, these hires will expand research in quantum information science, support the launch of a new Bachelor of Science program in Quantum Systems Engineering, and strengthen the Master of Science in Quantum Engineering.

Mines is a key partner in the Elevate Quantum consortium, which aims to position Colorado as a global hub for quantum innovation and workforce development. Mines’ Shared Instrumentation Facilities provide resources for advancing discovery and application, including the Edgar Experimental Mine for testing quantum technologies and Quantum COmmons, a service for fabricating and measuring quantum devices to support startups and accelerate innovation.
Mines launched one of the first interdisciplinary master’s programs in Quantum Engineering in the United States in 2020 and is launching a new BS degree in quantum systems engineering, the first of its kind in the nation.
The Quantum Engineering Program at Mines includes 29 faculty members from seven departments with research spanning quantum algorithms for near-term quantum computers, quantum complexity, spin qubits in silicon, materials for quantum information, machine learning for quantum systems, and quantum sensors for astro-particle physics, among other areas. Additional topics include cryogenic electronics to enhance quantum readout, quantum-proof encryption, and the application of quantum algorithms to materials science, chemistry, and petroleum engineering.

CompensationTotal rewards: 95,000 – 132,000 per academic year.
