PositionSummary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Data Analyst. The analyst will collaborate with informaticists, researchers, and technologists to define and develop solutions affiliated with all missions in the Department of Surgery. These solutions typically involve extracting data from NYULH’s various relational databases, cleaning and reformatting it into analytic data sets. The role involves developing and managing databases, designing data collection methods, performing statistical analysis, creating reports and information products, and visualizing data for departmental leadership.
Job Responsibilities- Translate end‑user data requests into technical specifications and specific data elements required for data set, report, or data mart development.
- Elicit requirements for new reporting and data requests by interacting with end users.
- Write SQL queries to profile data sources and to extract data to fulfill data requests.
- Test and validate the content of reports and data extracts, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Create and maintain value sets needed for various research use cases.
- Oversee data cleansing, data quality, and data validation using industry standards and processes.
- Extract data from the medical center’s data warehouse via Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle SQL Developer, and reporting tools such as SAP Business Objects.
- Visualize analytic insights and create dashboards with Tableau.
- Research new data sources and analytical tools; contribute to product development and improvement in delivery and presentation.
- Manage data‑related projects in support of ad‑hoc and standing departmental requests.
- Provide expertise for data collection design, data organization, data visualization, and other reporting.
- Conduct data cleaning, data management, data restructuring, and maintenance of existing reports and reporting systems.
- Perform complex data analysis in support of ad‑hoc requests using Microsoft Excel or other data tools.
- Support data collection methods, databases, analysis, and reports utilizing existing institutional software.
- Support the design of de novo data collection methods, databases, and reports.
- Manage the submission and tracking of data requests and communicate status to project leaders.
- Collaborate with clinicians, administrative staff, and colleagues to determine reporting specifications and analysis requirements.
- Assume additional activities and responsibilities as directed.
- Use machine learning and predictive analytics to support medical decision‑making and advance patient care.
- Deliver analytics presentations in both small‑group and department‑wide meetings.
- 1–3 years of prior work experience in a professional setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Strong analytical skills and working knowledge of Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and understand data trends.
- Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories preferred.
- Effective communication skills – both oral and written.
- Ability to write reports containing technical information.
- Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards preferred.
- Knowledge of quality control practices and procedures within a patient care facility.
- Word processing and/or data entry skills.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs or workshops.
- Sensitivity to confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA is required.
- Prior experience working in a research environment and/or knowledge of research common data models.
- Experience with healthcare terminologies and code sets such as ICD‑10, RxNorm, LOINC, CPT, and building or using value sets for specific reporting use cases.
