The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed.

The Division also contracts with numerous private residential and non-residential service providers throughout the State. For pre-adjudicated youth, the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of Colorado Youth Detention Continuum, a State-funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State.

This job exists as a formal supervisory position dedicated to overseeing and providing supervision for direct care Youth Services Security Officers. Responsibilities include supervision of staff, scheduling, movement of juveniles, admissions/releases, orientation, security/control, educational support services, daily programming, recreation, meals, medical referral and follow-up, and customer service. The role involves identifying and addressing staff performance concerns, modeling and ensuring compliance with DYS policies and standards, and serving on the Youth Center Leadership Team with trauma responsiveness and Sanctuary Model principles.

• Performance Management: supervise direct care staff, teach, lead, monitor, coach, ensure timely and quality work, document performance, apply reflective supervision, supervise intake/release, and support staff development.
• Personnel and Supervision: participate in hiring, onboarding, training, discipline processes, assign duties, supervise staff, provide coaching and mentoring, oversee staffing and post assignments, and support training schedules.
• Safety and Security/Emergency: apply sound judgment in crises, conduct drills, maintain sanitation and safety standards, enforce policies, oversee post assignments, de-escalation, restraints/seclusion when appropriate, conduct searches, and report discrepancies.
• Programming: supervise youth center programming, ensure activities are completed and documented, implement trauma-responsive tools and the DYS treatment model, facilitate groups, coach staff in Safe Correctional Practices and Trauma Informed Care, enforce safety rules, manage daily living activities, and ensure youth receive orientation to rules and routines.
• Documentation/Quality Control: oversee documentation of daily operations, unit activities, logs, medical/behavioral documentation, mandatory reporting, and timely recordkeeping; ensure action plans for Compliance reviews.
• Organizational Accountability: complete mandatory trainings, promote a positive culture, communicate professionally, adhere to codes of conduct and policies, model staff adherence, and supervise to policy.

Minimum Qualifications: Work Experience:
Two (2) years professional corrections-related experience in a correctional or trauma-informed facility.
