To provide and ensure that the highest quality swimming lessons are provided for all levels of instruction to infants, youth, and adults.
Instruct both group and private infant through adult swimming lessons.
Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepares lesson plans, organizes relative equipment, may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction.
Provide a safe environment and ensure the safety of all class participants.
Provide leadership, maintain order and safety in teaching area for all participants.
Provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in methods of swimming and safety skills.
Complete and distribute progress report cards to all students at the conclusion of each session.
Establish and maintain a good public relations image for all aquatic programs and activities.
Enforce all pool rules and regulations.
Address concerns and emergencies according to policy.
Report any problems, concerns, or emergencies that arise during class to authority on duty.
Attend staff meetings and in service training as required.
Responsible for finding a dependable and appropriate substitute, and provide lesson plans, when it is necessary to miss scheduled classes.
Keep all certifications current. Update to new material as necessary.
- Minimum 16 years of age.
- Previous teaching or lesson instruction experience preferred.
- Knowledgeable of all American Red Cross learn-to-swim levels, basic water safety, and spinal injury management.
- Ability to interact and instruct diverse populations.
Current Lifeguard Training Certification (Red Cross, Starguard or Ellis) or Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification required.
Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Excellent customer service skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of U.S. currency and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense and to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
