Overview
CDSP Special Education Teacher role at Wayne County Public Schools. Job site Meadow Lane Elementary – Community Developmental School Program. Supervisors:
Community Developmental School Program Coordinator, Principal.
Teacher
Minimum Qualifications- Teaching certification in Special Education, along with other required training upon hire.
- Maintains and implements each child’s Individual Education Program goals and objectives. Establishes the daily learning environment to include compliant learning centers required for a developmental day program setting, and prepares materials and supplies.
- Creates specially designed instruction to meet the learning needs of all students with extensive support needs each day. This includes adapting instructional materials, programming assistive communication devices, and employing high-level practices during all learning activities.
- Creates a highly engaging and structured learning environment and collaborates with multiple support staff and outside providers.
- Maintains a daily schedule compliant with developmental day guidelines.
- Implements sanitation guidelines within the classroom as part of daily operations.
- CPR/First Aid and CPI certifications; background checks and fingerprints required upon hire; ongoing professional development trainings assigned by the principal and program coordinator to stay in compliance with Developmental Day guidelines.
- First Steps to Orientation and Second Steps to Orientation trainings (3 hours and 6 hours respectively).
- Health and Safety trainings and ongoing training hours as specified by licensure and program requirements, including a range of topics from infectious disease prevention to emergency preparedness and child safety.
- Ongoing training components include planning a safe, healthy learning environment, understanding child development, family engagement, program management, professionalism, observation of behavior, inclusion of children with special needs, and working with specialized equipment and supports.
- Collaborate with support staff on programming and physical activities, participate in decision-making committees, and perform medical procedures when training is provided as part of the role.
