Title: Cafeteria Manager

Qualifications
  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Three years’ experience in child nutrition or similar food service and certified Serv Safe or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Reports To

School Principal

Job Goal

To effectively manage a Wayne County Public Schools System cafeteria.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Obtain food and supervise food preparation and service.
  • Supervise the performance of cafeteria employees at assigned site(s).
  • Supervise maintenance of facilities to meet health, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Strive to meet the Child Nutrition Manager performance metrics to ensure the program remains financially solvent.
  • Maintain complete and accurate purchasing documentation, fiscal reports, inventories, and other records. Make daily deposits.
  • Cultivate positive and professional relationships with parents, employees, and students, ensuring a professional image of the cafeteria.
  • Perform public relations duties such as cafeteria promotions, nutrition education programs, and tours. Participate in training programs.
  • Perform related duties as requested by the director or supervisor.
Terms of Employment

Ten‑month work year / At Will / FLSA Non‑Exempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade

NC State Salary Schedule

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board and local policy on personnel evaluation.

Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to work with and supervise other employees.
  • Functional knowledge of nutrition principles, meal planning, equipment usage, sanitation, purchasing, cost control, personnel, child nutrition management, and administration.
  • Capability to perform all cafeteria operations tasks and train others.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 15–20 pounds.
