The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. ** Description of Work
** Responsible for supervision of Correctional Food Service Officers and providing oversight of offenders performing large-scale food production at medium custody prison facilities.
Salary Range 37,782 - 66,120

** This position is located at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, North Carolina. This is a medium custody male facility.
This position will report to the Correctional Food Service Manager II. This is a supervisory position. This position provides daily supervision to Correctional Food Service Officers and offenders on the assigned shift rotation.
Must be able to communicate with Managers and employees both verbally and in writing; be able to comprehend and abide by verbal and written instructions; be able to work a varied schedule and be able to return to work during emergencies. This position will continuously observe and patrol the work areas in Food Service; perform crisis intervention counseling; compose and write comprehensive reports;
perform rescue functions such as CPR, First Adi, Fire Fighting; be able to engage in physical activities necessary to control or apprehend offenders; be able to defend oneself or others against physical attacks; be able to effectively subdue and restrain violent offenders; be able to distinguish color codes used for emergencies and security purposes. Responsible for operating locking devices and maintaining keys;
be able to tolerate verbal and mental abuse from offenders; be able to input and comprehend data; be able to conduct offender counts; responsible for securing and maintaining equipment; must be able to read, comprehend and calculate menus; must adhere to and observe sanitary food handling practices; have knowledge of and ensure rotation of stock; must be able to complete CPR, Firearms and unarmed self-defense training;
must be able to instruct and supervise subordinate staff; must be able to requisition food and supplies within an allotted budget; should be able to identify and coordinate training; be able to make emergency decisions concerning Food Service operations; be able to plan and develop operating procedures and conduct employee work appraisals. Shift assignments for this position is based on the needs of the institution.
Position is required to work 8.00 hour shifts and will be required to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled on the shift assignment.

Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer, or two years as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
