The Emergency Department is a 52-bed unit, including a 4-bed Behavioral Health Unit. It features three triage rooms, an ambulatory area with a three-stretch bay located directly behind triage, a decontamination area, and a family consultation room. The department operates with 24-hour registration, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, and CT radiology coverage, with specialized radiology services such as MRI, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine available on-call after 5 PM.
Additionally, a new EMS convalescent transport service is available Monday through Friday during the day to facilitate inpatient discharge and improve Emergency Department flow. The department is known for its efficient patient throughput, avoiding long hold times and ensuring a smooth transition to inpatient care. The team is highly collaborative, with frontline staff input regularly recognized and implemented to enhance patient care.
Management is supportive of maintaining a healthy work-life balance for staff members. The Emergency Department serves a diverse patient population, providing care to individuals of all ages, sexes, races, and religions, regardless of financial status, and operates 24/7 to handle any type of emergency. The primary functions of the department include triage, assessment, stabilization, and treatment for all patients seeking or referred for care.

Scheduled to work two (2) twelve (12) hour shifts every weekend to include Saturday and Sunday plus a minimum of one (1) additional shift during the week. Additional hours scheduled or requested to work during the week are determined based on the needs of the unit/department and negotiated with the Director.
SummaryThe Supervisor, Clinical Operations-Nursing oversees the performance, daily operations, programs, and activities of assigned teammates under the direction of nursing leadership. Ensures nursing protocols are followed and that team members deliver quality care to patients and their caregivers. The Supervisor functions as a resource to the department and uses the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patients to provide, delegate, supervise and document the care and teaching of patients and family members.
Responsibilities- Supervises, plans, schedules and organizes work to ensure appropriate distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of teammates, equipment and facilities during assigned shifts.
- Collaborates with providers, charge nurses and teammates regarding managing, planning, organizing and facilitating the daily activities related to patient flow through the unit and throughout the continuum of care. Works as a liaison between teammates and the providers.
- Serves as a preceptor, clinical resource and role model to teammates in the performance of assigned activities.
- Monitors teammate performance to determine the need for additional education/training, and coordinates appropriate teammate development activities.
- Provides direct patient care as needed.
- Is timely in completing activities such as chart review, scheduling and follow up on diagnostic testing and labs.
- Remains knowledgeable of all patients in the unit. Evaluates the quality and completeness of clinical care delivered by teammates.
- Understands, communicates and complies with rules, regulations and accreditation standards impacting nursing practice in North Carolina.
- Recommends, develops and/or revises written policies, procedures and standards of care governing comprehensive patient care.
- Plays an active role in the department’s achievement of standards and metrics. Maintains required records, reports and statistics. Analyzes and manages data as needed.
- Keeps current in trends and developments in clinical specialty. Seeks opportunities to enhance and promote professional growth and development in self and others.
