RN Clinical Nurse – 2nd Floor Post Surgical Summary

The Registered Nurse provides professional, holistic care to patients using the nursing process. The RN collaborates with the care team, implements provider orders, promotes patient safety, and supports recovery in accordance with North Carolina Board of Nursing standards and departmental policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide, supervise, and document nursing care based on provider orders and nursing standards.
  • Create and update individualized plans of care based on patient needs and responses.
  • Demonstrate competency in caring for patients with complex and postoperative conditions.
  • Perform bedside point-of-care testing and prioritize care effectively.
  • Communicate clearly with providers, interdisciplinary teams, patients, and family members.
  • Follow regulatory guidelines, safety protocols, and infection control standards.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and supervise licensed and unlicensed teammates.
  • Provide direct patient care when required.
  • Serve as charge nurse or team leader when assigned.
  • Participate in continuing education, in-service training, and professional development.
  • Mentor and precept other staff members.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Report issues or concerns to leadership.
  • Engage in performance improvement and committee work.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
  • Deliver culturally sensitive, age-appropriate, ethical patient care.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and standard precautions consistently.
  • Manage supplies and equipment appropriately.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Required)
Licensure / Certification
  • Active North Carolina RN License (Required)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required)
  • Additional department-specific certifications may be required
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience preferred
  • New graduates are accepted (with residency program)
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practices
  • Effective use of the nursing process
  • Ability to assess acute and chronically ill patients
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proficient in Epic EMR and able to learn new systems quickly
  • Ability to meet physical job requirements (standing, walking, lifting)
Additional Information
  • Valid NC Driver's License not required unless operating a hospital vehicle (must be age 21+).
  • Non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
