Electrical Engineering Manager

Location: Goleta, CA

Job Summary

Lead an innovative, high‑performing team of electrical engineers and FPGA designers on projects ranging from short technology investigations to full end‑to‑end high‑volume product development. Additionally participate in technical work including prototyping, modeling, schematic design, PCB layout, and testing.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Enable, maintain, and improve the process used in the EE department to develop circuit boards and FPGA code.
  • Staff development projects with engineers possessing the appropriate skill sets and experience.
  • Identify and invest in new technologies, design tools and methodologies needed to keep Teledyne FLIR’s products market‑leading.
  • Hire new employees and consultants.
  • Provide technical oversight and support for all EE projects and engineers.
  • Backstop most projects or engineers, demonstrating deep technical capability with periodic hands‑on usage.
  • Develop career plans, conduct assessments, and provide ongoing education for staff across all experience levels.
  • Coordinate EE support for products in production (troubleshooting failures beyond manufacturing engineering and handling non‑trivial component obsolescence).
Job Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years experience as an Electrical Engineer or Firmware Engineer.
  • Experience successfully leading highly innovative and productive teams.
  • Excellent project problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies (Microsoft Project, JIRA, etc.) desired.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, managing and executing electrical aspects of new product development.
  • Successful design of products that have entered high‑rate production and experience working with offshore contract manufacturers.
  • Expertise in all phases of electrical product development.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse team and provide technical guidance to product development, engineering, and operations.
  • Experience building and implementing product development processes that enhance a nimble environment.
  • Desired experience in infrared cameras or systems, imaging sensor integration, automotive electronics, electronics miniaturization, or design for harsh environments.
  • Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or eligible to obtain the appropriate export control license.

Preferred Education & Background

• Bachelor’s degree or greater in Electrical Engineering preferred. Other degrees with relevant electrical engineering design experience will be considered.
