Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer
LaunchPoint Electric Propulsion Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer to join our engineering team. We design and manufacture advanced electric propulsion and power generation systems for aerospace and defense markets, focusing on high power, high density, and reliable solutions for aerospace applications.
About the RoleThe Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams on electrical designs, requirements development, test plans, and test systems. You will drive the integration process from pre-integration module level through system level verification and provide expertise to deliver electronics designs across the requirements, development, integration, and verification lifecycle.
Responsibilities- Serve as the SME for MIL-rated hardware design
- Lead specific product design efforts from concept to production
- Perform system analyses to evaluate power semiconductor devices for target applications
- Define power semiconductors, optimize gate drivers and busbar designs
- Conduct high voltage (up to 1,000 V) and high current (up to 1,000
A) experiments - Validate prototype performance for final product readiness
- Provide engineering support to production
- Plan and test new products for required analysis and design verification
- Document design reports, test results, and failure analysis
- Contribute to continual improvement of internal processes
- BS degree with 10+ years of industry experience in power electronics hardware design for defense or aerospace
- Strong working knowledge of MIL/DOD design requirements related to environment and electronics packaging, EMI/EMC, and software
- Ability to develop concepts and designs at the cutting edge in high current, high power (>200 kW), low voltage, high efficiency/density converters
- Experience moving from concept to architecture to MIL-rated design ready for environmental qualification testing
- Design experience with AC-DC and DC-DC converters
- Proficiency with multiple conversion topologies (flyback, forward, push-pull, buck, boost, etc.) and the ability to model designs
- Familiarity with EDA tools; knowledge of PSPICE, OrCAD, and Altium
- Ability to develop test plans, procedures, and test solutions
- Understanding of magnetics (inductors/transformers), magnetization, leakage, windings, and core design considerations
- Technical leadership experience
- Experience with thermal design considerations and packaging
- Patents and publications
- Industry experience in Aerospace or Defense
- Control algorithm and software development
Base pay: $110,000 to $175,000 per year. Additional compensation includes annual bonus and stock options. Total compensation will depend on skills and experience.
