The Field Service Mechanic develops customer relations between Taylor Construction Equipment and end users by providing prompt and efficient service and aftermarket support. This position reports to the Service Supervisor for Taylor Construction Equipment. Parts are requisitioned and reports are submitted through that office. The Field Service Mechanic keeps the supervisor informed of activities and any schedule changes. Service personnel are usually assigned to a territory but may assist in other areas as required.
Responsibilities
- Consult with the Service Supervisor to plan effective work and travel schedules, prioritizing customer needs and considering machine location and parts availability.
- Diagnose malfunctions: repair and/or replace worn or defective parts; install new assemblies; adjust devices and controls to keep machines in operating condition.
- Provide tools and parts and arrange facilities to perform repair work, usually on customer premises.
- Inspect, operate, and test machines upon delivery, at specified intervals, and after repairs to ensure proper functioning.
- Report to the Service Supervisor with customer details, machine description, nature of malfunction, time involved, mileage, and other information for accurate billing.
- Strive to increase technical skills through company-sponsored training, and reading technical literature.
- Maintain a neat personal appearance and keep the service truck in clean, orderly condition to promote the company's image.
- Serve as a troubleshooter for recurring or unusual problems, coordinating with Engineering, Manufacturing, and other service personnel to resolve issues.
- Train new service personnel or supervise a team on large units or complex repair jobs as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to stoop, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record; will drive company vehicles and be covered under corporate insurance.
- DOT certifiable.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other technical materials.
Education And Experience
- Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.
- Three years of on-the-job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics; schooling in these fields could substitute for some experience.
- Welding skills are encouraged; passing the AWSD
14 Welding Test is not required but may be considered for future promotions.
