Job SummaryWe are looking for an astute Accounting Specialist I responsible for compliance with all State, Federal and Agency laws, policies and procedures pertaining to the Business Office. Responsibilities include accounts payable functions, Inmate Trust Accounts System (ITA) and technical problem resolution at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Perryville.
Job Duties- Enters and verifies financial and other data to provide records, reports, and correspondence in a systematic manner.
- Performs routine accounting tasks involving basic numeric calculations.
- Enters data in all systems related to job duties.
- Examines and verifies fiscal transactions such as billing invoices, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, creates requisitions and other financial documents.
- Maintains records and journals, including financial reports, checks, and deposits.
- Creates, maintains, and reconciles spreadsheets.
- Resolves technical issues.
- Investigates and resolves account discrepancies.
- Prepares correspondences.
- Drives on State business.
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment.
- Principles, concepts and techniques of government accounting and fiscal management.
- Procedures, methods and office equipment used in statistical record‑keeping.
- General office procedures.
- Computer software including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Written and verbal communication.
- Prioritizing and organizing tasks.
- Operating various office equipment and automated accounting systems.
- 10‑Key/calculator proficiency.
- Techniques for maintaining accounting records through automated systems.
- Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
- Accurately work with numbers and complete mandated reports in required formats.
- Adapt to changing priorities and situations.
- Research and compile fiscal and statistical information.
- Interpret ADCRR policies as they pertain to accounting.
- Work in a prison environment.
One (1) year of experience in governmental accounting practices or one year working in the private sector business field.
Pre‑Employment RequirementsEmployment is contingent upon passing a background investigation and a drug test. All employees must take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter. Employees who drive on state business must possess and retain a current, valid class‑appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended.
Employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance.
All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).

RetirementPositions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility becomes effective after 27 weeks of employment.
